Americana (And the Act of Getting Over It) is a graphic novel about thru-hiking the Pacific Crest Trail. Written and illustrated by Luke Healy, it's a highly reflective, multi-layered story wrote from the perspective of Luke as an Irish immigrant.

I’ve hiked alone, in groups, even five months with my mum, and last year I did the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) with my sister. It was terrible but it was pretty great too.  

Dropping a loved one off at a trailhead and driving away from them knowing you will not see them for several months is extremely hard to do. You feel as if you are deserting them, leaving them to fend for themselves in the great wild unknown.
